Abiyamo: Ondo state Contributory Health Commission flags off distribution of free birth kits to pregnant women.

In a bid to promote maternal health and reduce infant mortality rates, the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC) has flagged off the distribution of free birth kits to pregnant women under the ABIYAMO Scheme across the state.
The commission’s efforts focuses on ensuring that expectant mothers have access to essential items necessary for safe and hygienic deliveries. 

Director-General of the State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin said the initiative is health palliative aimed at reducing the effects of the current economic hardship.

At the flag-off of the event at the UNIMEDTH, Akure complex on Monday 14th October, 2024, the Director-General of the State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin said the initiative is health palliative aimed at reducing the effects of the current economic hardship.
Abiyamo, is a health programme of the present administration to cater for antenatal, delivery, caesarean section and post-natal care of mother and child.
Oyeneyin applauded the programmes of the state Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in the health sector especially his commitment to the scheme, stating that with the health scheme, there had been remarkable achievements.

The scheme, according to him has recorded 46,500 beneficiaries with over 16000 babies delivered out of which there are 400 twins, 10 triplets and two quadruplets.
He commended Governor Aiyedatiwa for his support for residents noting that with the various health insurance package in place, there has been improvement in the health sector.

Speaking at the event, The DG explained that since the commencement of Abiyamo scheme, beneficiaries have enjoyed free services. He called on other pregnant women who are resident in Ondo state to embrace the scheme and register with the residency card (kaadi igbeayo).

While commending the acting Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Adesina Akintan for providing improved services for the beneficiaries, Oyeneyin stated that the distribution will also be done in all health facilities rendering ABIYAMO services to enrollees across the state.
He stressed the need for pregnant women to take care of themselves and their babies adding that they should embrace family planning.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka while flagging off the distribution commended the acting CMD of the hospital for qualitative service delivery noting that government has zero maternal death in ABIYAMO programme due to persistent government efforts in ensuring quality maternal health care.
He stressed that the pregnant women should endeavour to attend post-natal clinic for overall health of both the mother and the baby.
Earlier in his welcome address, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Prof. Simidele Odimayo who was represented by his SA, Dr. Dolani Gbelela expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for Health for his quality leadership in the health sector adding that the event aimed at giving back to pregnant women in the state.
The event also featured the handover of hospital commodities to the health facilities.
