Having made significant progress in implementing health insurance schemes in Ondo State, the Ondo State Government through the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission hosted a significant event on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th June, 2025, Southwest Regional Health Insurance Conference.
The event which aligns with the mission of the Commission’s to provide quality healthcare services for the people of Ondo State took place at the International Culture and Event Center (The DOME), Akure, Ondo State.
Declaring open the conference, with a theme: “ATTAINING UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE THROUGH A STRENGTHENED HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME”, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described it as not only timely but also deeply relevant to the aspirations of the Southwest people.
Aiyedatiwa who was represented by his Special Adviser on Health, Prof Simidele Odimayo, said ‘We are proud of Ondo State Health Insurance Scheme ‘ORANGHIS’. He further stated that, access to good healthcare service is the bedrock of any prosperous society, stressing that health insurance also provide platform for affordable and quality healthcare hence the conference was held at the right time.
The conference aims at exploring strategies for achieving universal health coverage in the Southwest Region through effective health insurance schemes. It also provides a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, best practices, and challenges in implementing health insurance schemes. It also facilitates discussions on how to strengthen health insurance coverage, improve healthcare financing, and ensure universal health coverage in the Southwest region.
The program featured Delegates of Health Insurance Scheme from counterparts States of the Southwest Regions, (Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti), top Government Officials in Ondo State and other Stakeholders.
